Top 10 Films I Saw in 2015

2015 was a great year for movies and film. There’s a lot of solid stories that came to your local theater. Though a lot of the coming Oscar nominees are just getting to the theaters now – such as The Big Short and The Revenant – I’ve compiled a list of the Top 10 films I saw in 2015, and my original posted twitter review. Almost all of these are available on disc or digitally by now.

In alphabetical order:

#AmericanSniper: Deeply moving and affecting film. Cooper should win #Oscar. Do not get those who say it is pro war. It’s pro solider. 4/4*

#Brooklyn: Wonderful characters and themes. Slow burn story and development; need a good attention span to enjoy. Great performances. 3.5/4*

#ImitationGame: Cumberbatch turns in a stunning performance in an otherwise taut, terrific and (ultimately) sad story. Knightly shines. 4/4*

#LoveAndMercy: Some brilliant filmmaking & a fascinating story. The kind of performance not seen from John Cusack since High Fidelity 3.5/4*

#ExMachina: The existential questions it poses alone… Both inspires to write & makes me want to quit b/c I’ll never be that good. 4/4*

#TheMartian: A great example of how great #films can be. A terrific hero to root for, a challenging story & beautifully shot to boot. 3.5/4*

#PawnSacrifice: Tobey Maguire vaults to the top of the Oscar list. Well done and compelling – story and cinematography both. 3.5/4*

#SteveJobs: F-ing brilliant. Everything about it; top to bottom. Writing, directing, acting…just brilliant. 4/4*

#TheTruth: Reveals a version of the US that people may not be ready to hear or understand. Hits its stride in the second half. 3.5/4*

#zforzachariah: Beautifully shot, acted and written. Compelling and haunting. Best #film I’ve seen this year. 4/4*
