3Q Twitter Film Reviews

On a Sunday

Washington DC

Jack has no good ideas for his blog for this week. Therefore: 3rd quarter Twitter film reviews.

And I didn’t even bother to run SEO on it. Damn it.

#TheWalk: Visually thrilling; no film I’ve seen gives you the idea of space so well as this one. It actually triggered my vertigo twice 3/4*

#Sicario Kinetic and stylish with amazing performances. Deakins brings it with filming; Blunt & Del Toro are shoe-ins for Oscar noms 3.5/4*

#MeAndEarlAndTheDyingGirl: Great casting, inspired cinematography and a good (and quirky) heart make this movie a joy to watch. 3.5/4*

#TheMartian: A great example of how great #films can be. A terrific hero to root for, a challenging story & beautifully shot to boot. 3.5/4*

#Everest: Perhaps the most visually stunning film I’ve seen in 2015. Characters well-drawn & acted. Story compelling; vaguely empty. 3/4*

#BlackMass: Depp is fantastic. The movie – meh. There are great moments, and there’s a great story there – but it never comes together. 2/4*

#TheIntern is kind of a mess as a story (more like a series of shorts) but De Niro & Hathaway are great together so you hardly care. 2.5/4*

#PawnSacrifice: Tobey Maguire vaults to the top of the Oscar list. Well done and compelling – story and cinematography both. 3.5/4*

#Grandma: Fun film; Lily Tomlin is pitch perfect. Story solid, but thin in places; could have benefited from more meat and tightening. 3/4*

#WalkInTheWoods Go for Redford/Nolte interplay; you won’t be disappointed. Cinematography lacking; sets looked fake, which was odd. 2.5/4*

#Aloha: Great scenery, good performances and not much else. Story plays like a first draft; poor pacing and little coherence. 1.5/4*

#zforzachariah: Beautifully shot, acted and written. Compelling and haunting. Best #film I’ve seen this year. 4/4*

#TheEndOfTheTour is not for everyone. It’s dialogue heavy with a meandering, subtle plot that will bore many. But – it was fantastic. 3.5/4*

#AntMan: Serviceable intro to character. Shallow story – major plot points not earned, no real flow to story. Shame about @edgarwright. 2/4*

#ManFromUNCLE: Slick, stylish and fun with solid characters and performances. Good chemistry among the leads. Story just okay. 2.5/4*

#MissionImpossibleRogueNation: A thrilling & satisfying entry into the M:I franchise w/ great action & good humor. Cruise still has it. 3/4*
